Description of Japanese Kanji Tree

Learn to read and write Japanese with the highest rated kanji app in the store.

All learning features are completely free, so you can jump in no matter what skill level you're currently at. There are no ads, but there is a paid version if you want to donate. It's got extra bonus features like speech output, synching across multiple devices, user defined study lists, etc.

Most other apps simply present you with a wall of information about one kanji after another, and expect you to wade through the whole lot in a very tedious and inefficient way.

By contrast, Kanji Tree's revolutionary approach is simple, fun, and super effective. The more you learn, the more you can explore. And the more you explore, the more your previous learning gets reinforced.

• Kanji Recognition Game.

The learning process is broken down into three natural stages. The first is a gentle introduction which trains the pattern matching area in your brain to recognize kanji shapes. By focusing on this activity to begin with, you will amaze yourself by how powerful your own learning abilities really are.

• Word Reading Game.

The next stage takes the kanji you can recognize, and teaches you Japanese words which use them. Most kanji can be pronounced in different ways, depending on which word they're used in. By learning actual words , you naturally learn the kanji pronunciations at the same time. Don't waste your time trying to memorize lists of meaningless gibberish, or obscure pronunciations you will never need.

• Word Writing Game.

The final stage to leaning kanji is being able to write them. This will lock them into your memory in a way that reading alone will never do.

• Go At Your Own Pace

Kanji Tree takes the chore out of kanji study, making it a fun and rewarding experience. You are in control at all times; study new things or revise item you've already seen, whatever suits your mood. Sit down for half an hour in the evening, or take it out for five minutes while you're waiting for a bus. Kanji Tree automatically tracks your progress and builds your personalized ideal study list, you just play the games.

Take time out to explore as much as you like. Tap on any kanji or any of it's parts to bring up the dictionary, and browse freely to satisfy your curiosity and build connections in your brain. Then just press "Back" to seamlessly pick up where you left off.

• Features

A short but informative tutorial is available to walk you through the basic features.

Pronunciations can be displayed in either Roman Alphabet or Hiragana, depending on which you prefer.

Contains all 6355 kanji in the Kentei list, broken down into sub-categories for Jōyō grades, elementary school, high school, people/place names, and advanced.

Contains a 110,000+ word dictionary, which is searchable by meaning, reading, etc. You can also list all words containing a given kanji with a specific reading.

Hints are available in the various games, but you get a better score if you don't use them.

There's a bunch of other stuff too, but don't waste time reading about it; just install the app and find out for yourself!

Really useful app for learning, but for some reason it suddenly became really laggy for me. After three or four seconds past opening it, every animation gets really slow, like a fourth of the normal speed. I\'ve tried reinstalling it to no avail; after a few minutes of using it normally, it \'breaks\' again. I have no idea what could be the cause, and it\'s a shame since when it functioned normally, it was really easy to use.

I have been studying Japanese for about 18 months now and have tried pretty much every Japanese learning/study app available on the play store and this one is my favorite for writing practice. Definitely worth upgrading to the full version. Learning Japanese is a huge undertaking, if you study 2 hours a day you can probably get somewhere near fluent in about 4-5 years for most people, so apps like this that let you get the most out of your time are invaluable.

This is one of the best if not the best Kanji learning apps I\'ve come across. Not only can you learn by recognition, reading and writing, it does it in a way where you are quizzed in a sort of game format. This is everything you need to master Kanji in one app! i would definitely recommend this to everyone whether you are a beginner or proficient with Kanji!

Honestly? I rarely give a five stars, and Jnever trusted language apps, even less one that claims to be ad free. BUT THIS ONE! I\'m seriously surprised.. I already knew a few kanjis[people, moon] Now It\'s been a hour and half since i began learning,I should sleep, but I WANT to actually learn new words! This is like a game! I can\'t believe I am learning. EDIT:Found the writing mode! This is the best kanji learning app ever. .TYSM for this jewel!!+

Love this app, but ever since the \"improvement\" to the dictionary, I have a hard time searching for kanji that I don\'t know the readings of, and I can\'t seem to find words in katakana. The buggy search was a lot better than the current one. Otherwise it\'s an amazing app and definitely deserves its high rating. PS: The ability to add personal words and phrases would be highly appreciated

I wouldn\'t know since I don\'t have points for comparison, but I was lucky to gather from just a few reviews elsewhere that this app was gold, and I have to agree. User-friendly interface, although it could be more presentable. The features outvalue that small qualm though. Props to the developer for keeping it super accessible! EDIT: Maybe developer can add a feature in the dictionary that indicates which grade or JLPT level a word is categorized under.

excellent, totally recommended for anyone who wants to learn kanji and needs to train the visual memory. there are no complications and only 5 to 20 minutes a day are enough to improve little by little. the interface is friendly and easy to use for quick revisions as well as long hours of practice. congratulations to the developer and thanks for bringing us this wonderfully useful tool!!!!

I have been learning Japanese for years and tried many apps. This one is well made and motivating as well. The only thing I am missing is a \"show AGAIN\" in the writing section. A more modern UI would probably increase conversion in Western countries, but it is not that bad ;) Has earned a pro upgrade!

after using this app for a bit, its really bad for learning new kanji youve never seen before. the algorithm is simplistic so it forces you to learn them ten at a time, basically, without interleaving ones you know.

Amazing app for learning Kanji as well as vocabulary. It lets you go at your own pace and doesn\'t try to force anything on you. I\'ve gotten a lot of mileage out of this app. The only downside is that the writing is really picky - it really could benefit for allowing a little more leeway. Didn\'t take any stars off though because in my opinion it doesn\'t really impact your learning too much (you can just use pencil/paper to practice :D). Great app.
